Silver Sea Is Now in the Karbon Partner Directory: Five Things I Saw From Day One

Silver Sea AI & Automation is now listed in the Karbon Partner Directory as a Karbon Certified Expert. The listing is new. The work is not.

About two years ago I started researching Karbon, and it clicked almost immediately. In May 2025 I met the Karbon team in person and took a photo to mark what I hoped would be the start of a deep partnership. Today that partnership is official. Honestly, this one is a dream come true.

A partner announcement is only useful to a firm if it explains the judgment behind it. So here is what I saw in Karbon from day one: it does the core of practice management well, data moves in and out through Excel, saved views answer the daily questions, the API is open, and the data is built for analysis. It is not an exhaustive list. Some of it a demo will show you. The parts that decide a migration, it will not.

1. Karbon does the core of practice management well

Client management, time entry, billing, work templates, and workflow, in a clean interface that is fully cloud-based. That is the part a firm uses every day, and Karbon gets it right. Custom fields let a firm shape the client database around the way it works.

2. Data moves in and out of Karbon through Excel

That sounds modest until a firm seriously considers a switch. A firm can prepare its client and contact data in Excel and load it into Karbon itself.

The door is open.

It opens the other way too. Data exports back to Excel, so a firm can check what it loaded and take its data with it. Open WIP is the one exception, and it is covered below.

3. Saved views in Karbon answer the same question every day

On top of the raw data, staff can build saved views and filters for a specific group of clients or work. One click, and there is your list of overdue Form 1040 work. Simple, but essential. The manager who rebuilds the same filter every Monday morning knows what that click is worth.

4. Karbon's API was open from the start

I am a big believer in open platforms, because nobody can build everything perfectly. The sustainable path is to do the core job well and let others extend it.

Karbon's API was already public and documented when I first looked, and it works with custom fields. Webhooks tell other systems the moment something changes, so nothing has to keep asking. I covered the details in an earlier article on Karbon's API.

For a firm, the consequence is practical. Other systems can read and update the client record, so staff stop re-keying it. How far that goes depends on the other system. Karbon does not replace your tax software. CCH Axcess™ Tax connects through its own API, and UltraTax CS has no API at all, so we reach it through the screen.

5. Karbon's data is built for analysis

Karbon Analytics puts the firm's data in a Snowflake environment that Power BI, or another BI tool, can connect to. Combined with Karbon's open approach to integration, that makes Power BI dashboards on capacity, remaining budget, and task priority by staff member practical to build.

Moving practice management to the cloud usually means giving up the direct database access that on-premise systems offered. Karbon gives most of that back.

What this means for a firm's budget

Karbon is worth building on because its data is open in three directions: Excel import and export, a public API that works with custom fields, and a Snowflake data layer that Power BI can connect to.

For years we have delivered migration, custom integration, and BI for firms on other platforms. On Karbon, the same kind of project takes significantly less effort to build, so a firm gets more for the same budget. That comes from our own projects. We have not benchmarked it formally.

That is also how we built a body of Karbon work quickly:

  • SharePoint folders created with a consistent structure when a client is onboarded in Karbon.
  • Power BI reporting on Karbon and QuickBooks data together.
  • A tax automation portal, used by a client firm's staff, that connects Karbon with UltraTax CS, Truss, and SafeSend. One part reads UltraTax CS reports and updates Karbon contacts and tax work items through the API. The details are on the Karbon page and in the case studies.

What to plan around before a move

Being listed does not change how we talk about the platform. Silver Sea stays an independent consultancy, and for some firms the right answer is to stay where they are.

As of October 2026, these are the edges we plan for:

  • Open WIP. The firm cannot load it on its own. Karbon's API reads time entries but does not create them, and a WIP import runs through Karbon's data team, from a template, as part of a billing implementation. Either budget for that import, or move clients with no open WIP first and work the rest down before their turn.
  • Data held per project. Custom fields sit on contacts and clients, not on work items. If your current system records something per project, decide early where it will land.
  • Client roles. Karbon has two built-in positions on a client, client owner and client manager. More roles than that need custom fields, or a decision to drop them.
  • Document folder links. Karbon's API has no call for connecting an existing SharePoint folder to a contact or a work item. Plan how those links get made before the cutover, not after.
  • Analytics. Depending on the subscription, Snowflake access and custom reporting can be a paid add-on. Confirm it with Karbon before planning reporting around it.

None of these is a reason to avoid Karbon. Each is a reason to plan before the cutover.

Questions firms ask

Is Silver Sea an official Karbon partner?

Yes. Silver Sea AI & Automation is listed in the Karbon Partner Directory as a Karbon Certified Expert, for migration, integration, and reporting work. It remains an independent consultancy that recommends what fits the firm and connects Karbon to the other systems the firm runs, including tax software that has no API.

Can a firm migrate into Karbon without a consultant?

Often, for the basics. Client and contact data can be prepared in Excel and imported by the firm itself. The parts that need a plan are open WIP, which the firm cannot import on its own, data the old system holds per project, and the links between clients and their document folders.

Can Power BI report on Karbon data?

Yes. Karbon Analytics provides a Snowflake environment that Power BI or another BI tool can connect to, and Karbon data can be combined with accounting data such as QuickBooks. Depending on the subscription, custom reporting can be a paid add-on, so confirm it is included before planning dashboards around it.

If your firm runs Karbon, or is weighing a move

Whichever platform your firm is weighing, ask the question a demo will not answer for you: can your own people get the data in, and can they get it back out?

If you want a second opinion on a migration plan, or on something you are scoping in Karbon, book a discovery call and we will walk through it with you.

Thank you to the Karbon team for the trust, and to the firms who let us build alongside them.
